Caught On Guard: Police constable killed

Two pistols, one Kalashnikov and three hand-grenades were recovered from their possession.

SWABI: Police constable Ishraq Ali of the Parmoli police station was shot dead by unidentified men in Azizi Dheri village on Tuesday.

Mukhtiar Ali, Parmoli police station SHO explained four constables, Ishraq Ali, Akhtar Zaman, Muhammad Ayaz and Muhammad Bashir, were guarding an archeological site. Mukhtiar said the policemen were at the site when three motorcyclists opened fire at around 12pm. As a result Ali was killed on the spot, while the other three narrowly escaped. The deceased was laid to rest in Dhobian village with state honours. Meanwhile, Swabi police arrested three robbers in Kalabat and recovered hand grenades and other weapons from their possession.

DPO Dr Mian Saeed said a group of men had been robbing pedestrians and looting shops in Topi and Zaida for some time. He further said the Topi police received a tip-off stating some members of the group were at Kalabat Road. They rushed to the site and arrested Javed, Umar and Zultifal. Two pistols, one Kalashnikov and three hand-grenades were recovered from their possession. Saeed mentioned the culprits confessed they were involved in the robberies. The police filed an FIR against them.
