BAHAWALPUR:

Construction of houses and shops near a girl’s college could become a safety issue, said PPLA Girls College teachers’ union president Farhat Nawaz, during a press conference here on Saturday.

Nawaz said the government should stop the construction and allot the land for car parking.

Jamaat-i-Islami District Ameer Anwaarul Haq, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam District President Maulana Noor Ahmed Sial and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Rana Shakeel Khan were present on the occasion in support of the college’s demand.

Tehsil Municipal Officer Malik Ameen told The Express Tribune that the land had already been sold.

He said TMA had handed over the land to eight buyers on the orders of the district coordination officer following a Supreme Court verdict.

He said 34 more buyers were awaiting transfer of possession of the land.
