LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued a clarification regarding a news report in the press on May 29 that said that an accountability court judge in Rawalpindi who had been hearing cases involving the Sharif family had been transferred.

The LHC spokesperson said there was no connection between the transfer and the Sharif family.

The report read that the judge hearing three accountability references- Hudabia Paper Mills, Raiwind estate and Ittifaq Foundry against the Sharif family- had been transferred on emergent basis.

The spokesman, however, said that the judge had been transferred on completion of tenure.

He said the judge, Abdul Haq, had been posted as the presiding officer at the accountability court-IV on deputation basis for three years starting May 5, 2010. His term ended on May 14, 2013.

The judge, he said, had been repatriated to his parent department.

The spokesman regretted that the story tended to create the wrong impression.
