KARACHI: Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) has written a letter to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry requesting him to take suo motu notice over the appointment of Salman Farooqui as the federal ombudsman by the caretaker government.

In the letter, TIP maintained that Farooqui’s regularisation as the federal ombudsman is unconstitutional. Farooqui, who had been appointed as the acting federal ombudsman by then prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf December last year, was regularised by the caretaker government on May 27, 2013.

TIP said that the caretaker government exceeded its mandate.
