SUKKUR: Six people were killed and two others injured in an armed clash between two groups of the Lashari clan over a karo kari dispute in Fateh Ali Lashari village, Khairpur on Tuesday morning.

An exchange of fire took place between the two groups after one group reportedly attacked the houses of the other one.

As a result of the crossfire, six people - Mukhtiar Lashari, Loung Lashari, Gulab Lashari, Barkat Lashari, Ismail Lashari and a guest Ehsan Ali Shaikh - were killed on the spot and two brothers, Nadeem Lashari and Waseem Lashari, were injured. The deceased and the injured were taken to Civil Hospital, Khairpur.

Heavy contingents of police, led by Khairpur SSP Umer Salamat, arrived at the scene and managed to control the situation.

According to reports, the free-will marriage of Raheeman Lashari with Ali Hassan Lashari four years ago created tension between the two groups, leading to clashes which resulted in multiple deaths.

Two years ago, however, the dispute was reportedly resolved with intervention by Mir Shahnawaz Talpur. Both the groups were fined Rs3.60 million which they were supposed to pay in installments.

Sources said that both the groups, however, refused to follow the verdict of the jirga after which clashes restarted.

ASP Masood Ahmed Bangash told The Express Tribune that six people have been arrested in connection with Tuesday’s attacks but their names have not been disclosed as yet. The police also have yet to register the case.
