SHANGLA:

Five police officials – including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) – were killed in a roadside bomb attack in Shangla district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.

DSP Khan Bahadur Khan was patrolling in the Kotkay area when suspected militants remotely detonated a roadside bomb next to his vehicle, District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Hussain told journalists.

The explosion, which took place around 7:20pm, was heard as far away as Aloch police station where SHO Sarbali Khan rushed to the site, along with other police officials.

“It was a huge blast. It left a huge crater at the site. Human limbs were scattered all over while the vehicle had turned into a heap of mangled metal,” said SHO Khan.

The remains of the victim policemen were shifted to the nearby Pir Muhammad Shaheed Hospital where they were identified as DSP Bahadur, and Constables Saeed Anwar, Touseef Ahmad, Jameel Ahmad and Usman.

Medical Superintendent Ghafoor Khan said that they have received five bodies, all of them badly mutilated.

The bomb attack was the first targeting a senior police officer since the 2009 military operation in the district. Earlier, a police constable was shot dead by militants in the limits of Aloch police station on April 1.

Militants use bombs/explosive mostly made from Ammonium Nitrate. they get ammonia from the fertilzer factory. whose sale and movement should be strictly monitored. (Afghanistan does not have any fertlizer plant producing ammonia) unavailability of bomb input will restrict their fire power.
