Public safety: 150 vehicles impounded

FAISALABAD: As many as 150 vehicles with substandard gas cylinders were impounded by the local district administration on Monday as part of the crackdown.

Chief Traffic Officer Sardar Asif Khan said the crackdown had been initiated following the Gujrat school bus fire incident in which 16 children and a teacher were killed.

Muhammad Imran, a City District Government spokesman, said that fitness certificates and gas cylinders installed in vehicles were being checked.

He said the administration would take strict action against vehicle owners who presented bogus and expired fitness certificates.

He said vehicles were also being checked for extra canisters for petrol storage that most drivers carried.

He said route permits of all impounded vehicles would be cancelled.

He said a complaint cell had also been established at the office of the Regional Transport Authority secretary.
