The strife continues: Seven killed in separate acts of violence

Seminary student among those who fell prey to crime.

KARACHI: A seminary student and a political worker were among the seven people killed in separate acts of violence in the city on Sunday.

The body of a seminary student, 20-year-old Tariq Jamil, was found among bushes in Bhittaiabad near Jinnah International Airport. Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat claimed that the deceased was affiliated with their party and was a student of Madrassa Ehsanul Uloom in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Police said that the initial investigation suggested that the victim was kidnapped by armed men while on his way to the seminary. They had allegedly shot him thrice and dumped his body at the site.

A trader of sweets and father of five, Shaukat Ali, 40, was shot dead in a targeted attack near Star Ground within the limits of Quaidabad Police Station. Police officials said that the deceased was intercepted by armed men on a motorcycle who shot him and escaped. No case was registered till the filing of this report. The police, however, said the initial investigation suggested that the motive behind the killing could be personal enmity.



A young man, Sajid Yasin, 30, was shot dead while his younger brother, Rashid, was injured in a firing incident in Agra Taj Colony. SHO Haji Sanaullah said that the victims had a dispute with the tailor in the area. According to reports, the tailor’s elder brother, identified as Sajjad aka Imran Mani, opened fire at the victims after a heated conversation and escaped.

A young man, who is yet to be identified, was shot dead by armed men near Saddam Chowk, Macchar Colony. Police officials said that the motive behind the incident could only be ascertained after the victim was identified. Further investigation is underway.

Earlier on Saturday night, a Muttahida Qaumi Movement worker, Amir Farooqui, was shot dead by armed men in North Nazimabad Block-A. Police officials said that the victim had been standing near his home when unidentified men on motorcycles shot him and escaped. The deceased, a member of the MQM’s North Nazimabad sector, was allegedly killed over political dispute, they said.

Seperately, decomposed bodies of two men were found near the Super Highway within the limits of Gadap City Police Station. Police officials said that the bodies were at least a month old. The bodies were moved to the Edhi morgue, Sohrab Goth after medico-legal formalities at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
