According to reports, today at about 8:10 am power supply to most of the cities and towns of Upper Sindh including, Sukkur, Rohri, Pano Akil and Ghotki, Mirpur Mathelo, along with all of Balochistan and some parts of Punjab was disrupted due to the Guddu Thermal Power Station breakdown.
At different control rooms of the power station, officials expressed ignorance about the nature of the massive fault and said that all senior staff is busy in rectifying the situation.
Resident Engineer Arshad Arain talking to The Express Tribune blamed overloading for the tripping of all the units.
This is the second time the power station has broken down this week. A major fault developed in Guddu Thermal Power Station on Thursday due to which all 13 units of the station tripped.
The power crisis has worsened in the last week, as cities and rural areas alike plunged into darkness after four power plants tripped due to overload. Believe it or not this was the good news, as the tripping of the power plants avoided the near-collapse of the National Grid System, similar to the one that took place on February 24.

The Empire ( Of Nawaz Sharif ofcourse )strikes back onto Karachi ! The people of Karachi should have been thankful to MQM for almost no load shedding in Karachi . But now it is over .Get ready to feel the heat .
@Saima Siddiqui: From now on other will suffer.....!!!!
In this extreme weather temperature above 47 degrees how the people manage 20 hours load shedding what is the plight of children , aged and patients here on this side we are getting 24 hour supply in villages even and yesterday due to some major fault we faced 7 hours power cut and it was awesome. The Govt of Pakistan must concentrate on nuclear power plants instead of nuclear weapons you have enough of these weapons and you should not worry about India as we have our own problems.
I can only imagine what will be the plight of the people in the lifts of the tallest building in the world that was going to be built in Pakistan.
@Sonya.... It's a big mystery.....
Like comon, no electricity is being provided to Balochistan any how, we here face 20 hours of loadshedding for the past three months.
@Saima Siddiqui: people of KPK are facing same amount of loadshedding even though they sacrificed there lands for hydro projects that now produces 70% of total power. about 6000 out of total 9-10 k production. even though our requirement is less than 2k
@Saima Siddiqui: I think you didn't visit KPK or Balochistan during last five years. I am currently studying in Lahore, but my hometown is Abbottabad. Believe me, Abbottabad face way more load shedding than Lahore; while on this tribune forum, i have repeatedly heard injustice being done to Punjab. I request you to visit KPK before crying foul.
@Saima Siddiqui: If you get media coverage does that mean you're the only one with that issue? Balochistan has been deprived of all of their rights, no one seems to care? Specially you punjabi's. Don't provoke a provincial war.
Nawaz hasn't taken over fully and Karachi is experiencing worst loadsheddings already! I wonder what wrath he will bring upon us!
@Junaid Yes agreed, entire country is suffering from loadshedding but the fact is that the entire country is not suffering equal amount of loadshedding. People of punjab & particularly of Lahore are facing more than 18 hours of loadshedding on daily basis since last 5 years!!! Totally agree with Saima Siddiqui. How many hours in Karachi on average???
Here in swabi kpk we face 23 hours loadshiding normally the RCC Islamabad use discrimination policy with us entencaily the people of the facing difficulty and very angry.law and order situation well bad if the loadshiding continue
@Saima Siddiqui: Please dont make this about provincial enmity/competition. Think Pakistan. Entire country is suffering from the scourge of loadshedding due to mismanagement over the years.
First of all solve the question - Where is my vote?
It is not only upper Sindh, Balochistan and some parts of Punjab was disrupted on Sunday morning, but the electricity is also not been supplied to people in Karachi as well.
Upon calling 118, the help line number of KESC, I have been told that due to shortage of Sui Gas, the electricity of Karachi of those parts where load-shedding was not done due to payment of electricity bills, residential units and that too on a holiday have also been taken into load-shedding by KESC.
Now what is happening is that after every one or two hours of supply of electricity, KESC is putting off electricity for two or more hours while the summer is its peak.
If KESC is not paying bills to Sui Gas and Sui Gas is not supplying the required gas to KESC to provide un-interrupted supply of gas to KESC then why the ordinary consumers who are paying electricity bills are punished?
If the government departments are not paying their electricity bills to KESC than why the ordinary residential consumers are been punished?
I am seriously thinking to file a petition against KESC with the Chief Justice of Pakistan of Supreme Court against KESC and other department to call upon them at the Supreme Court's Karachi Registry Office and ask them as why KESC is not supplying un-interrupted supply of power to ordinary residential and commercial consumers in Karachi who are paying their electricity bills regularly and hence right from top to bottom, KESC employees are getting their monthly salaries in time.
We pay our electricity bills in time so that KESC employees should get their salaries in time and in return KESC is not supplying electricity to the consumers in Karachi?
Mubarak ho hahahaha
We have come to Pakistan this summer.. seriously thinking our decision.... PIA is not working fine and there is no electricity... last year we relied on UPS and this year people are telling UPS won't work since no enough time for recharge.
If government can curb stealing monsters, I think a reasonable load shedding time can be achieved. Also, PMLN is taking too much time to be in government..to fix this problem.
Otherwise.. we need dictatorship.
