LAHORE:

A qawwali night was held here at the Azakhana Zainab on Thursday as part of celebrations to mark the birthday of Hazrat Ali on Friday (today).

Talking to The Express Tribune, Fazal Shah shrine caretaker Syed Ali Raza said, “Ali is the spiritual leader of all sufis.” He said such ‘spiritual nights’ were organised every year on 13th Rajab.

The evening started with a cake cutting ceremony followed by qawwali music. A large number of people danced the dhamaal to Dum Mast Qalandar and Ali Da Malang, performed by Sher Miandad and Pappu Qawal.

Folk singers Shaukat Ali, Imran Shaukat Ali, Fazal Jutt and Abbas Jutt performed special poems written for the day. Ustad Hamid Ali Khan and Raga Boys also performed on the occasion.

Concerts were also arranged at Bibian Pak Daman shrine and Dargah Fazal Shah.
