PESHAWAR:

A three-day anti-polio drive has kicked off in most parts of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), except in Mehsood-dominated areas in South Wazirsitan.

The anti-polio campaign was inaugurated here on Monday at the Fata Secretariat. Secretary Planning & Development, Fata Secretariat Shakeel Khan Bangash and officials of the EPI-Fata were present on the occasion. During the campaign, 726,716 children will be administered polio drops during the whole campaign. A total of 2,623 teams have been formed for the purpose, officials said.

Bangash said that the government in collaboration with its partner organisations was trying to reach out to every child below the age of five. He hoped that the disease will soon be eradicated from the region. No campaign has been carried out in the agency for the last one year due to a ban imposed by militants in North Waziristan against polio drops.
