In a message of felicitation, the President lauded the will and determination of Samina Baig and said that she has made the nation proud. According to President Zardari, Samina Baig has earned laurels for the country by becoming the first Pakistani women to scale Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain with a peak at 8,848 meters.
He said that the whole nation was proud of the young lady mountaineer for her historic achievement and for introducing Pakistani women as a symbol of talent and great potential.
Congratulating the women of the country and the entire nation on the achievement, the President expressed confidence that the young Samina Baig will be followed as role model by women of the country and her gigantic achievement will ignite zeal in women folk of Pakistan.
While paying glowing tribute to the two young Pakistani mountaineers from Gilgit Baltistan, 21 year-old Samina Baig and 29 year-old Mirza Ali, the President termed the youth a great future asset of the country.
He affirmed faith in the country and said that Pakistan is a talented nation with all the potential to rise in every field of life.
He urged for the proper grooming and guiding of the talent of Pakistanis especially the youth and women of the county to maximize its true potential.
The President expressed hope that both Samina Baig and her brother Mirza Ali would continue to work hard and keep the flag of the country flying high in the world of mountaineering.

I know all of those who made it to the Everest are all from GB. Samina and Ali made history. They desrve recongnition from the top. This also demonstrate that the people ( women too) of GB have great potential in putting their best to acheive success. congratulations to samina, Ali,their family members, people of Shimshal, gojal valley, Hunza and GB and pakistan they represented.
Our political leaders are always quick to jump on the bandwagon when there is some good or positive news for the country. I would like to know what the PPP had done for such activities or promoted such activities for youth, in the past 5 years.
Gilgit Baltistan has always been true to its allegiance despite numerous injustices with the local people by the Pakistani state and its civil society in the name of Kashmir dispute. I added Civil Society because we always hear that state is not giving them their rights but we have never seen a single effort from any bracket of the civil society be them NGOs. Media groups or associations. Non has raised a voice in our favor. It is now up to the energetic and very talented youth of GB to take up the challenge through their achievements and this one is one in the same series.
Kashmir dispute or not, they do have the right to vote. I'm sure India will protest if we give them NA representation but this is not as important as giving these people their rights. Express Tribune is a good way for us to express our views on this issue because otherwise no one discusses this at all
