Pemra chairman: LHC issues notice to federal govt
The court directed a deputy attorney general to ensure submission of a government reply.
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday issued notice to the federal government on a writ petition challenging the appointment of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority chairman. Shafqat Jamal Ranjha, had filed a petition stating that Chaudhry Rashid Ahmad was appointed Pemra chairman in violation of merit. He alleged that the respondent lacked mandatory experience in the relevant field. He said the Pemra chairman was a regular post but the respondent was appointed on a four-year contract. The petitioner prayed to the court to set aside the impugned appointment and declare it illegal. The court adjourned hearing till June 10 and directed a deputy attorney general to ensure submission of a government reply.
