ANP, pML-N shootout: Argument over politics leaves two dead

SHANGLA: Two people were killed and two were injured in a shootout between Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) activists in Chakesar tehsil, Shangla on Wednesday.

Local police officers in Jat Kol informed the Chakesar police about ANP and PML-N activists firing at each following a political discussion, said Chakesar DSP Ayaz Khan.

Initial reports indicated four people had been injured in the incident. According to Ayaz, ANP activists were riled by the discussion and assaulted PML-N workers.

The latter armed themselves and returned to open fire at the ANP men, initiating a fierce firefight in the village. Village elders tried to settle the dispute, but in vain.

The confrontation left ANP’s Noor Wahid and PML-N’s Muhammad Naqib severely wounded. Both succumbed to their injuries en route to a hospital in Battagram.

PML-N’s Zarbadshsh and ANP’s Ahmad Rashad were also taken to the hospital where they are said to be in critical condition.
