Over 50 people were killed on May 12, 2007, in clashes between political activists of different parties during the visit of (then deposed) Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry to Karachi to address a lawyers’ gathering.
Marking the sixth anniversary on Monday, the legal fraternity had repeated demands for justice for the families of the victims, including lawyers and political workers.
The petition, seeking a judicial inquiry into the bloody incidents of that day and the trial of former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, was earlier dismissed as the petitioner, Syed Iqbal Kazmi, preferred to withdraw the same.
The plaintiff had withdrawn his petition on November 19, 2007, and went to the court again after the restoration of the “pre-November 3 emergency” judiciary.
He cited the Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief and the Sindh home adviser, home secretary, federal interior secretary, Rangers director-general, Sindh police chief, Karachi police chief and the City Courts SHO of that time as respondents.
Moving a miscellaneous application, Kazmi accused former president Pervez Musharraf of being responsible for the entire episode.
Advocate Faisal Siddiqui, who is assisting the court as Amicus Curiae, told the judges on Wednesday that unless another case based on suo motu action regarding May 12 incident was not taken up, proper assistance may not be rendered.
Headed by Chief Justice Mushir Alam, the bench repeated direction to its office to place the suo motu case with the present petition for hearing in the second week after courts reopen following summer vacations.

The whole nation knows who was responsible for that carnage, it was to show the rest of the nation who was incharge there and nothing moves with out their approval. I recall when even Musharraf raised his fist in the air in Islamabad and said to the nation who is incharge in Karachi and now the same guy wants to run for political office.
