SUKKUR:

Three members of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have decided to join the Pakistan Muslim League - Functional (PML-F) on Wednesday.

The brothers, Syed Mehboob Shah Rashdi, Syed Samiullah Shah Rashdi and Syed Zaman Shah Rashdi, are cousins of PML-F chief Pir Pagara, and were reportedly close to the President Asif Ali Zardari, and the former home minister Zulfiqar Mirza.

“Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto were charismatic leaders who believed that the people held the real power,” said Syed Samiullah Shah Rashdi. He felt that after Benazir’s death, PPP fell into the wrong hands and that its leaders had ignored the people. They made the annoucement after meeting PML-F’s Syed Sadruddin Shah Rashdi.

Correction: Earlier version of this story mistakenly stated President Asif Ali Zardari as former president.
