ISLAMABAD: Resentment among locals of Union Council Sohan over lack of a bridge over Nullah Korang has started to spillover after two people lost their lives in a flash flood two days ago.

Residents of the area, who use handmade and manually operated lifts, have been pressing the city administration for a bridge over the drain for quite some time now.

A dilapidated bridge exists for commuters, but this remains submerged during rainy season and whenever water is released from Rawal Dam. Two people lost their lives a couple of days ago when flash floods caused by water released from Rawal Dam swept away a taxi crossing the dilapidated bridge. There have also been reported incidents when the man-made lifts broke down, but the locals still have not been provided with safer options. “A proper bridge should be constructed for the villages of Pindora and an efficient warning system put in place to avoid accidents during the release of water from the dam,” said Ehsan Ali, a resident.
