KARACHI: Passion, persistence, belief in oneself, caring for employees, paying attention to customers’ opinions, selecting the best name and people for the business are the main qualities that can make you a good entrepreneur.

A group of business gurus gathered at Avari Towers on Saturday for Ladiesfund Entrepreneurship Conference 2010, organised by Dawood Capital Management.

“If someone wants to be a successful entrepreneur then he or she should not only be passionate about the idea but also produce products that differentiate them from the competitors,” said Gordon James Gorman, general manager of Avari Towers Hotel, adding that successful entrepreneurs “should come out of their comfort zone and put all their efforts into the business”. Tara Uzra Dawood, chief executive officer Dawood Capital Management, explained the aims of the conference as “a platform for shared ideas and experiences in order to help future entrepreneurs start their businesses and mid-career entrepreneurs to scale up effectively”.

The conference also arranged two discussions with founder of Canvas Art Gallery Sameera Raja, fashion designer Amir Adnan, head of Lotus Client Management and Public Relations Selina Rashid, owner of Copper Kettle Nilofer Saeed, owner of Student Biryani Mohammad Javed and the owner of The Craft Company and designer Muna Siddiqui on the panel.

The panelists narrated how they started their businesses and how they achieved success. Struggle, hard work, passion and belief in oneself are the keys to success in any business, they said, advising new comers to never jump into a profession they do not know much about.
