GURGAON:

Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who contributes to various social activities through his charitable organisation Being Human, advises that one should do charity and do it directly.

Salman, 47, was present at the launch of a new campaign The Little Hearts on Wednesday, which aims at curing 500 children suffering from heart ailments. Being Human has joined hands with the Fortis Foundation for the initiative.

“Everybody does charity, but not everybody likes to talk about it. Some may do it for personal benefits, to stay in the limelight and others might do it genuinely,” says the actor. “According to me, you may do charity for any reason, but do it anyway; no matter what the intention is.”

Under the programme, 42 children have already been treated, while eight are currently hospitalised in Fortis. When it comes to donation, the Dabangg star feels it’s even better to do it firsthand. The actor also launched a Being Human store in the hospital, which has a clothing line for men and children. “Rather than going and giving money to a place where you don’t know how it will be utilised, it is better to make direct charity like funding a child’s education. At least you can see the results yourself,” he said.

Salman’s NGO sells T-shirts and other products online and in stores and a portion of the sales goes into a supporting the underprivileged. In the early days of Being Human, Salman arranged and funded the foundation from his own money. The foundation concentrates on two areas: education and healthcare.

Salman is currently busy in his brother Sohail Khan’s production Mental, which will be releasing soon, but a definite date has not been set.
