Quratulain Balouch calls marriage 'waste of time', sparks debate on social media

Singer Quratulain Balouch, popularly known as QB, recently sat down with Tauseeq Haider, sharing her views on marriage. Her answer quickly went viral on social media, sparking a wider debate around differing opinions on the institution.

Responding to the host, Balouch quoted research suggesting that men tend to benefit more from marriage than women. She further elaborated that, according to the same research, marriage often leads to women being less happy than men. Agreeing with the findings, Balouch went on to call marriage a “waste of time.”

The statement triggered debate online, with people arguing over differences in opinion. Many users questioned Balouch's claims, asking, “What research? Which society? What time period?”

Others criticised what they called “foreign-sponsored” research, saying such ideas were once accepted as truth but are no longer relevant, adding, “we don’t need this misinformation and propaganda anymore.”

Some responses were more light-hearted, though. A few users said they understood if someone does not want to marry, but questioned the use of “research,” responding with laughter. Others disagreed with the singer's stance, saying marriage is not a waste of time with the right partner and adding that “people suffer due to unwanted expectations and emotional abuse.”

At the same time, several came to Balouch's defence. They questioned why people were so triggered, saying the singer had only shared her opinion when prompted. They argued that others should accept differing views, regardless of whether they agree with them or not.

This is not the first time Balouch has expressed her views on marriage. She previously spoke about it on Tabish Hashmi’s show, saying she has chosen to remain single as she has not found someone who is compatible with her personality.

Meanwhile, Tauseeq Haider himself has also shared his stance on marriage in the past, stating that it should not be seen as a mandatory milestone, but rather a personal decision.
