KARACHI:

Two suspected members of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were arrested on Saturday during a targeted raid in Sohrab Goth.

The apprehended men, identified as Ahmedullah, alias Mehmoodullah, and his brother Ikramullah hailed from Waziristan. They allegedly belonged to the Waliur Rehman group of TTP. While talking to The Express Tribune, Sohrab Goth SHO Naeem Khan claimed the brothers were part of a gang supervised by the group’s ameer, Khan Zaman, and were involved in various terror and extortion activities in the city.

They were arrested after the police, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid at a hide-out situated in Sohrab Goth’s Quetta Town. SHO Khan added that one-and-a-half kilogrammes of explosive material, a Kalashinokov and an MP-5 rifle had been found in the suspects’ possession. Sources privy to the matter told The Express Tribune that the explosives were going to be used to disrupt election campaigns in the city. The suspects had also coerced former ANP MPA Amanullah Mehsud into paying Rs1.7 million as extortion money. Further investigation is underway.
