Newspaper ad ordered in ‘universities’ case

LAHROE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey to publish newspaper advertisements to serve notices on 40 allegedly fake universities named as respondents in his petition against unrecognised colleges and universities that were functioning in the Punjab.

Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry adjourned the hearing till October 15. Barrister Jaffrey in his petition had voiced concern at the mushroom growth of fake educational institutions and sought direction to the government to close all the fake and unrecognised colleges and universities. He submitted that scores of bogus and ghost institutions had been functioning in Pakistan unchecked. He said that these educational institutions were in fact playing havoc with the careers of the youth.

He pointed out that the government had no mechanism to check private colleges and universities as they were minting money from students and providing nothing in return.
