Spring is clearly in the air at Bahria University. A large dragon boat ride goes swinging across with a group of squealing students. Some are seen enjoying peppery lemon sodas and gol gappas while others are simply relaxing being outside classrooms. Scores of university students are attending the three-day spring festival that began on Thursday.
“It’s good to be able to just have some fun and not worry about classes and assignments. This is the best weather to be outdoors as it will get too hot for such activities very soon,” said Nida, a student who participated in a game of musical chairs with her classmates. “It’s refreshing to have some healthy friendly competition,” she added with a laugh.
A number of clubs and societies have collaborated with various organisations to coordinate the event. There are stalls after stalls of snacks and drinks. Then there are gaming zones and fashion shows. Some of the retail clothing outlets have also set up stalls at the venue. These include Shahid Afridi, Kolaaj, Crush, Just Chick and Bonton.
The second day brought on added competition as students participated in table tennis, ludo, rolling ball, tug of war and even a scavenger hunt. Sing and dancing competitions with an energetic crowd of students cheering on their favourite contenders went hand in hand with the sporting events ending with a declamation and Antakshri competition in the university’s auditorium. The first day featured an intense poetry contest. The spring festival continues till Saturday.
