KARACHI: Special Investigation Unit (SIU) claimed to have foiled a possible terrorist attack during the election campaigns.

At a press conference on Thursday, SIU SSP Farooq Awan said that on a tip-off, an SIU team raided office number 505 at Masood Chamber, within the jurisdiction of Mithadar police station, earlier on in the day. Law enforcers seized a huge cache of ammunition as well as three rifles from the spot.

The office was unoccupied at the time of the raid. SSP Awan claimed the ammunition would have been used by terrorists to wreak havoc during election campaigns. The office had been unoccupied for a long time, said the officer. Nobody has been arrested as yet and the SIU has initiated a probe.
