Protestors demand police to register a case against a suspect.

Colleagues and relatives of the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) employee shot dead allegedly by a power pilferer staged a protest demonstration against police on Saturday.


The protestors said Akbar Ali, had reported a power theft case in Sahianwala four days ago. They said an electricity meter of the customer, Nauman, was removed as a consequence.

They said on Wednesday, Nauman and some other men had visited Ali at his house and demanded that the report be withdrawn. After Ali refused to do so, they shot him, they said.

Ali was taken to Allied Hospital where he died on Saturday.

The protestors blocked the Sargodha-Faisalabad road and demanded immediate arrest of Nauman and registration of a murder case against him.

Civil Lines police assured the protestors that the suspects would be dealt with in accordance with law. Sahianwala SHO Sub-Inspector Muhammad Azam told The Express Tribune that police awaited a formal complaint.

Muhammad Husain, a colleague of Ali, said FESCO employees were not secure.

He said, “If we do not detect pilferage cases, the officers of the company take action against us and if we do detect pilferage cases, we are attacked by customers.”

FESCO spokesman Tahir Sheikh said, “The matter would be discussed in the meeting of FESCO Board of Directors.”

He said, “The BoD would consider how to ensure security of field workers”.
