SUKKUR: Two girls were killed and a man was critically injured when a group of armed men opened fire on them near Bago Deho village on Wednesday morning.

Twelve-year-old Sonari, daughter of Peerano Shar, and 10-year-old Razia, daughter of Master Shar, and their cousin, Mast Ali Shar, 20, were going to the fields near their village to get fodder for their cattle when a group of men hiding in the bushes, jumped out and started firing at them.

The two young girls were killed while Mast Ali sustained bullet injuries. The assailants managed to escape.

The Sarhad police took Mast Ali to Civil Hospital Mirpur Mathelo while the bodies of the girls were sent to Ghotki hospital for autopsies.

Later, on the complaint of Peerano Shar, police raided the houses of members of the Malik tribe in the village and arrested five men, including Piyaro Malik, Ubaidullah Malik, Naseer Malik, Nazir Malik and Arbelo Malik. However, no FIR had been registered till the filing of this report.

According to residents of the village, one year ago a group belonging to the Shar tribe had forced its way into Waslo Malik’s house to rob him. When the family resisted the robbery, the armed thieves opened fire on them and killed Waslo Malik.

The murder sparked a feud between the two communities and the Maliks had been looking for a chance to “equal the score”. They avenged the murder with a ‘cowardly act’, the residents added.
