After receiving complaints of the Sindh administration’s ‘partisan’ role, the Election Commission of Pakistan on Thursday directed the Sindh government to shuffle public servants within seven days – particularly those 65 officials who have allegedly been favouring the previous government.
Sindh chief secretary, Additional Secretary S&G Administration, home secretary Sindh, principal secretary to the chief minister, secretary education Sindh, secretary local government, secretary S&G administration and PSO to former Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah top the list of officials against which the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) received complaints for favouring the previous government.
In its directive issued on April 2, the ECP directed the federal and provincial caretaker governments to shuffle and transfer all federal and provincial secretaries. The directive stated that if the caretaker government considered a federal or provincial secretary to be impartial and independent, then the official need not be transferred.
The director ordered caretaker governments to assess whether the chairpersons or chief executives of all autonomous, semi-autonomous or state owned bodies, IG Police, CCPOs, city commissioners, DCOs, DPOs, SHOs, patwaris and EDOs are independent and transfer those who do not the criteria.
The commission revealed that “no transfers have been made in Sindh nor has the commission received intimation with reasons that [a shuffle] is not necessary.”
