LAHORE: Lahore High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition praying that the Army be assigned the task of scrutiny of election candidates. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah remarked that the Constitution allowed no room for Army’s role in the election process. A citizen had filed the petition saying the Election Commission lacked the ability to scrutinise the candidates and had failed to stop fake degree holders and defaulters from being elected to the assemblies. The petitioner, therefore, prayed that the scrutiny of the candidates should be done by the Army.
