Election preparations: Rawalpindi division police officials reshuffled

The relevant notifications have already been issued, but the new officers have yet to assume their charges says police

In a major reshuffle of the Rawalpindi police hierarchy ahead of the general elections, the caretaker Punjab government moved around the regional police officer (RPO), city police officer (CPO) and Operations senior superintendent of police (SSP).


The relevant notifications have already been issued, but the new officers have yet to assume their charges, police sources said on Monday.

Punjab Investigation Additional Inspector General (IG) Sheikh Nasimuz Zaman has been transferred and posted as the new Rawalpindi RPO, while Capt (retd) Muhammad Zubair, the former RPO, has been asked to report to the Central Police Office (CPO) in Lahore.

Similarly, controversial former CPO Azhar Hameed Khokhar, who failed to control the crime rate in the city during his term, has been replaced with Abdur Razzaq Cheema, the former senior police officer for Gujranwala.



Operations SSP Israr Ahmed Abbasi has also been replaced with Mujahid Akbar. However, none of the newly-appointed senior officials had assumed charge when this report was filed.

Likewise, a large number of deputy superintendents of police (DSP) have also been changed in the city. Cannt Circle DSP Chaudhry Muhammad Shehbaz has been transferred and posted as New Town Circle DSP.

Sabah Sattar, an ASP who also served as the Kahuta SDPO, has been appointed Murree SDPO. Gujar Khan District will have ASP Capt Ghulam Murtaza as the new SDPO.

Similarly, DSP Taimoor Khan, who was heading Civil Lines Circle, has been posted as DSP Saddar Circle, Sahiwal. Taxila Circle DSP Raja Taifoor and Waris Khan Circle DSP Muhammad Jamil Baig have been transferred and posted as DSP for Chunian in Kasur District DSP Nawa Kot Circle and respectively.
