Seat adjustment: PTI, JI talks ‘unfruitful’

PESHAWAR: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has said its talks with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on seat adjustment remained “unfruitful”. 

A JI leader said the negotiations could not go further because of “either the PTI’s internal rifts or their lack of interest in the matter.” He, however, ignored the question on whether the talks were completely off the table. Earlier on March 17, the provincial leadership of both parties had met and agreed on seat adjustments in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

They also agreed to meet again on March 26 to chalk out other options. “We are contesting from 96 provincial assembly seats, 34 National Assembly (NA) seats and 12 NA seats in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas,” he said. On Saturday, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl also said they have temporarily halted talks on seat adjustment with JI as they (JI) were negotiating with PTI.
