Security concerns: 120 polling stations declared sensitive

Movement of Afghan refugees to be restricted on May 10, 11.

Out of the 499 polling stations in DI Khan, 120 have been declared sensitive in the security plan for the forthcoming elections presented on Thursday.


Sharing details with journalists at Police Lines, DPO Sohail Khalid said special security arrangements would be made for NA-24 and the five provincial assembly constituencies.

Of the 120 sensitive areas, 17 polling stations are in PK-64, 18 in PK-65, 27 in PK-66, 32 in PK-67 and 26 in PK-28.

Khalid said the district will be divided into four sectors and the DSPs will be responsible for the security of their respective regions. Movement of Afghan refugees will also be restricted on May 10 and 11, he added.

The DPO said a Central Control Room has been set up in his office to monitor security on election day, while the bomb disposal squad will be on standby as well.

He added CCTV cameras will be installed prior to the polling day and people carrying arms will not be allowed to roam the streets. Voters will cast their vote from 8am to 5pm and special election passes will be provided to journalists to visit polling booths.
