KARACHI: The brother of Peoples Amn Committee leader Uzair Jan Baloch and another gangster were declared arrested on Wednesday for the murder of Lyari’s notorious gangster, Arshad Pappu.

In a joint press conference on Wednesday, Lyari SSP Sardar Najam Tareen and Old City police SSP Ahmed Jamal disclosed the arrests of Zubair Baloch and Zakir Dada. SSP Jamal said that the arrests were made after the police received a tip-off and raided a bus stand near Hub Chowki, while the suspects were trying to flee Balochistan to avoid the arrests.

Both the arrested suspects were nominated in an FIR No 23/13 registered at Lyari’s Kalakot police station on behalf of Pappu’s wife, Asma. She also named Uzair Baloch, chief operation commander of the Rehman Dakait gang Noor Muhammad alias Baba Ladla, his brother Zahid Ladla and other alleged gangsters, Asif Kana, Faisal Pathan, Yasir Pathan and Sheraz Comrade in the FIR. She added the names of the chief of Friends of Lyari, Habib Jan, and former union councillor Shahjahan Baloch.

According to Jamal, over 150 barriers have been removed from Lyari. “Complete peace has been restored in Lyari,” he said.

SSP Tareen pointed out that action against gangsters continues in light of Supreme Court orders. The police have so far arrested three culprits during earlier raids and they have also arrested another nominated suspect, Shahjahan Baloch, from Lyari’s Kalakot area. “These gangsters are escaping to Balochistan because of the these operations,” said Tareen. “But we are coordinating with Balochistan police and will arrest the remaining suspects too.”
