Did you know?: John Mayer got Botox — to fix vocal issues

Mayer took an intense dose of Botox and was left vocally paralyzed for months until he finally healed.

The singer and guitarist has been on a vocal hiatus, due in large part to severe health issues that left him all but silenced. According to the Huffington Post, Mayer connected with Dr. Steven Zeitels, a laryngeal expert who rocketed to fame when Adele thanked him at the Grammys.

The strain on Mayer’s voice appeared after constant touring and performing. He has also suffered from acid-reflux caused by poor diet and drinking which adds to his problem.

After extended periods of voice rests, Zeitels’ combination of surgery and Botox injections did not fix the problem. Soon after, Mayer had to take a more intense dose of Botox and was left vocally paralyzed for months at a time, until he had a breakthrough and finally healed.

Mayer is now prepping a 40-city tour.

Interesting use of Botox. Botox just seems to be useful for more and more medical symptoms. I wish him luck in his healing.
