KARACHI:
During the meeting with the journalists, Indus Motor CEO announced that his company was working on the launch of new generation of Toyota Corollas by the end-2014.
Corolla is the flagship car of Indus Motors which has a dominant market share of over 70% in the 1,300cc-engine category in Pakistan.
Apart from that, Indus Motors had been working on at least three feasibilities of economy cars over the last few years but could not succeed, he said, adding that “it is unfortunate that we worked on three models in the last few years, but owing to high cost of production we did not start assembling any of those economy cars in Pakistan.”
“Automobiles companies all over the world love to launch a new model upon the discontinuation of any older model, but we were unfortunate that we could not replace our Daihatsu Cuore despite all our efforts,” he said.
When Indus Motors discontinued its Cuore a year ago, it used to sell 12,000 units of Cuore annually. That discontinuation paved a clear road for Pak Suzuki for its Suzuki Mehran – its only rival in the 800cc-engine category in the country.

why am i even reading this its so boring, were talking about a corolla that costs over 1.5 million rupees yet does not even have airbags or a powerful enough engine, seat two people int he car and it wont be able to climb the smallest of inclines. Buying a new car like this one in Pakistan these days is just foolish.
@Dhaka:
Yes. Im sure post 2008 toyota corollas were plying the streets of Dhaka in the 80s. As we're other cars made after the year 2000. Well done!
Toyota's major investor for grey market sale is 3S dealership Toyota Central which has car in ready always ready in stock, at premium ON money paid cash.
@ Dhaka: "China and India" where do you yourself stand? UAE has banned working visa for bangalies. This is how world treats you. These "80s" cars are being sold in UAE as a new car under Toyota flag. Now tell the world how your countary is better than UAE?
@Affan Khan: A close relation with both China and India made us a leading emergimg market.You can convey o us that you have close relation with China,but sorry to say that it is only a master slave relationship in which pakistan will not gain any thing other than politics..
@Affan Khan: he actually wanted to write DELHI... forgive him. biased attitude results in foggy mind.
@Dhaka: We are , surely, leading in population growth.

Pakistan is generations behind in road safety and cars than most countries. By global standards, a vast majority of Pakistani cars, if presented to group of officials from USA and Australia, for example, would not even pass their roadworthy tests. XLL brakes, 6-7 fitted airbags, automated fuel transmission are some of the things that are required by law, for any car to be driven on the roads in Australia and America, but here in Pakistan, no one cares about it.
Road reforms are need of the hour.
@Dhaka: So you guys have 2021 model there?
These cars looks like 80's car in dhaka city.They are still in pakistan roads!!
With the best record of Thailand made kit cars painted with imported paints, to finished product with General tyres, and plastic wrapped on seats tagged Made in Pakistan had been commercial success despite lack of standardisation QC per JAMA. Toyota policies the franchisee IM to go for environment friendly/quality products at competitive prices with innovation/value for money to the consumer. With Toyotas leadership in hybrid technology which is perfect match to the alternate fuel, environment, emissions, and value to the end user. A hybrid made in Pakistan will easily grab the SAARC regional markets as it is not produced in the region and will make it a business case as India has grabbed the EU markets. If IM will not make an instant decision, GM is seriously considering entering Pakistan with hybrid technology for local production, and will grab the regional market as well from Pakistan which Toyota couldn't do. IM try hard to exist in the market place, instead of selling premium/black market prices for Corollas in the shortage market of the 3S dealership.
