ISLAMABAD: Peshawar-based artist Abbas Ali exhibited his latest collection here at Jharoka Art Gallery on Tuesday.

The solo exhibition, which will continue till April 4, comprises a total of 26 pieces and is a mix of traditional and contemporary art.

Using mixed media, namely oil paint, water colours and pastels, Ali showcased his nature-inspired collection, some of which were abstract pieces.

The landscape paintings focus on meticulous details and include shadows of multihued trees during spring, the greenery of farms, Peshawar’s golf club and old architecture.

Ali’s artwork is a reflection of his upbringing — he lives in a village near Peshawar — and an attempt to depict feelings he has towards his immediate surroundings.

He captures the scenic beauty of these areas through the use of bright colours in his pieces, which are evidence enough of his love for nature.

Ali’s abstract pieces combine the use of bold pastels and oil with black colours, creating a compelling contrast.

“His work is commendable. Using traditional techniques he has still managed to make his work seem fresh. As an old artist, his lines are well defined and give a finished look,” said Jharoka Art Gallery Curator Nahida Raza.

Ali obtained his Master in Fine Arts from the University of Peshawar. He has been running exhibitions across Pakistan since the 1980’s.
