LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) to obtain information on the whereabouts of Ali Abdullah, the Jinnah Hospital doctor who went missing, and inform the court about it on October 4.

Justice Chaudhry Iftikhar heard the petition of Dr Sarfaraz Ahmed who is seeking recovery of his son Abdullah. Ahmed has alleged that Abdullah is in the custody of secret government agencies. CCPO Tareen told the court that he had formed two teams under the supervision of the superintendents (SPs) which were hard at work trying to locate Abdullah.

Deputy Attorney General Naveed Inayat Malik submitted a reply on behalf of the Defence Ministry stating that Abdullah was neither required by any agency under its purview nor detained by any of them. Petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Asad Manzoor Butt, asked the court to direct the police to produce the record of incoming and outgoing calls on Abdullah’s mobile phone.

Justice Iftikhar responded that it was the CCPO’s duty to investigate the matter and it was up to him to decide how to go about it. He said that it was not court’s job to supervise the investigation.
