FTO also wants to know how much airtime through pre-paid cards has been sold by each cellular company.

The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has asked the tax departments and the telecom authority to give details of the collection of Federal Excise Duty (FED) and Sales Tax (ST) from the cellular phone services.

The FTO has asked the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Inland Revenue Service (IRS) and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to appear today (Thursday) with regard to complaint filed by the Transparency International Pakistan.

How much Federal Excise Duty and sales tax has been collected (year-wise) from every cellular company since its establishment in Pakistan, said the notice issued by the FTO to FBR, IRS and PTA.

The FTO also wants to know how much airtime through pre-paid cards has been sold by each cellular company since they started business in the country.

The FTO has told the respondents to give details of any audit regarding recovery of FED and ST from cellular firms and mechanism of counter-check on returns of these companies.

The tax ombudsman also asked the tax authorities if they had ever maintained liaison with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on issue of determining the airtime of pre-paid cards.
