LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Friday disposed of a petition seeking directions to stop recruitments by Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal in the Punjab Assembly.

After hearing both sides, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial ruled that eligible candidates should take written exams and in case no eligible candidate was available, the recruitments should be made through the Punjab Public Service Commission.

Some PA employees had moved the petition submitting that the speaker wanted to appoint his voters to the posts lying vacant in the PA in violation of merit. They submitted that the speaker had also amended rules to this end.

They submitted that the possible appointments had caused unrest among the PA staff eligible for promotion to the said posts.

They requested the court to restrain Iqbal from making these appointments.
