DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The bomb disposal squad (BDS) defused a 12-kilogramme (kg) bomb in Sheikh Yusaf Adda bazzar on Thursday, said a Saddar police official.

Shopkeepers informed Saddar police station of a suspicious bag lying at the Chowk after which the police and BDS personnel rushed to the site.

They instructed people to stand away and close nearby shops, and then defused the device. The police claimed a big terrorist plot was foiled due to timely action.

Meanwhile, another explosive device weighing one kg was defused near Lucky Gate in Bannu city, said a city police official.

The damage would have been substantial had the BDS not defused it, he added.
