PPP members start hunger strikes over Asghar Khan case

While talking to the media, they demanded immediate action on Asghar Khan Case verdict.

LAHORE: Seven members of Punjab Assembly, belonging to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), went on a hunger strike on Thursday against the Punjab government, Express News reported.

While talking to the media, they demanded immediate action on Asghar Khan Case verdict.

Earlier, MPA Imdad Pitafi pointed out that no action had been taken against the politicians accused in the case, including Nawaz Sharif, who was allegedly involved in rigging the 1990 elections in order to defeat the PPP.

The members, who were part of the hunger strike, included Sajida Mir, Najmi Saleem, Sagheera Islam, Nargis Awan and Farooq Yousaf Ghurki among others.

The hunger strike camp is likely to continue until the Assemblies are dissolve or a case is filed against the Sharif brothers and the money is retrieved.

It has been revealed that 10 members will sit in the camp till eight in the morning, and are likely to be joined by 10 other members after evening.

Sindh Assembly members also protest

After PPP members started protesting outside the Punjab Assembly, their counterparts in the Sindh Assembly also started a hunger strike.

Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Khuhro, Sindh Minister for Women Development Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto and Sindh law minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro were among those protesting on the steps of the Sindh Assembly.

The protestors demanded federal interior minister to take action against the politicians, who took money from the national wealth, and if nothing is done in the next 48 hours then they would stage a protest outside the Prime Minister House.

They also requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take immediate action.
