RAHIM YAR KHAN:

The Education Department has surveyed 372,000 homes in the district under the universal primary education programme- one of the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals which aims at ensuring that children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling by 2015.

The remaining 8,000-10,000 homes would be surveyed by next week, Deputy Education Officer Ashraf Khan told The Express Tribune on Wednesday.

He said the department was registering all children from newborns to 16-year-olds. He said the data would be compiled before March 23, after which, Khan said, an admission campaign will follow.

He said, “We aim to enrol each and every child in a school. The data will help us ensure that no child of school-going age is missed.”

Praising the teachers’ efforts, he said they went to each house in their area to register children. This, he said, was done after school hours.

He said 128,000 houses were surveyed in Rahim Yar Khan tehsil; 102,000 in Sadiqabad tehsil; 68,000 in Liaqatpur tehsil; and 74,000 in Khanpur tehsil.
