Training: Workshop on cattle, milk production

BAHAWALPUR: Pakistan is the fourth largest milk producer in the world, participants at a training workshop were told on Sunday. The workshop was organised by the Livestock Department and was presided over by veterinary officer Dr Ali Raza Abbasi. Dr Abbasi said that milk produced in Pakistan worth Rs150,000 trillion annually. He said livestock played an important role in the economic development of a country. He said that the economic could be strengthened by increasing livestock production. Dr Muhammad Arif Khan of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, said that problems of cattle production could be resolved using latest reproduction techniques. He said that 22 experimental farms in Punjab were working on improving breeds of cows, buffaloes, lambs and goats. He said more than a million cows and buffaloes were being produced annually at these farms and more than 10 million families were benefiting from their work. He said 11 per cent of Pakistan’s farm production came from livestock sector.
