PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engineer Shaukatullah Khan said on Monday that rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from North and South Waziristan agencies is a challnging task, and one which the government is trying its best to accomplish.

“The policy of the government regarding drone attacks is very clear. And after each incident the issue is raised at the proper level by competent authorities,” Shaukatullah told protesting tribal elders who met him at the Governor House along with former MNA Maulana Hamidul Haq and other senior leaders of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-S.

Haq also presented a memorandum containing the demands of people from both agencies to the governor. Shaukatullah personally received the document and said he was quite conscious of the feelings and difficulties of the respective tribes, adding that he is in touch with concerned quarters to mitigate their sufferings and restore normalcy to some extent.

Responding to concerns about provision of compensation, Shaukatullah said the government has set a precedence of transparent and efficient disbursement to affected people in Bajaur Agency and Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency. He maintained similar measures were underway to replicate the process for people from the rest of the tribal areas.
