ISLAMABAD: Medical education in Pakistan is suffering because the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has been held hostage by the owners of private medical colleges. This was said by Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) President Dr Azhar Khan Jadoon in a press conference at the National Press Club on Sunday. Jadoon claimed the PMDC has approved over 50 medical colleges that do not fulfill basic conditions because of connivance between the PMDC’s registrar and executive committee. He said such colleges are just money-making schemes which will ruin the careers of students. Jadoon further claimed that a PMDC administrator has been appointed to hold rigged elections for PMDC members. The PMA officials demanded that the PMDC’s president, members of the executive council and the administrator be removed and fair elections be held under the Election Commission of Pakistan’s supervision.
