Killers apprehended: Six hitmen arrested, claim police

The police have arrested six target killers and also recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.


The hitmen have allegedly killed 14 people and injured six others in nine different targeted attacks, DPO Sohail Khalid said on Saturday during a news conference at District Police Lines.

Khalid said city and Saddar police personnel arrested the suspected killers during raids, adding that they will remain vigilant and active in apprehending persons that violate the laws of the land.

The six alleged target killers are police constable Ahad Nawaz, school teacher Syed Munir Abas Shah, Shakil Ahmad Daba, Patawarri of Irrigation Department Ramazan Ahmad, Sajid Hussain and Arif Ali Zaidi. All six men are residents of DI Khan city.

According to the DPO, the arrested persons confessed they were involved in nine attacks during investigation:

Sajid Hussain was killed on DI Khan-Multan Road in 2006, shopkeeper Masroor Alam was killed in Basthi Nad Ali Shah in 2007, Muhammad Yusaf was killed and Nazir Ahmad was injured near the Indus River in DI Khan in 2008, Qari Amanullah and Bilal were killed while Ehsan Baig and Muhammad Sadiq were injured in Wanda Muchain Wala in 2009, watchmen of Women’s Hospital DI Khan, Zarif Khan and Qamar Zuman were killed in 2009, Muhammad Tanvir was killed near Polytechnic College in 2009, rickshaw driver Muhammad Irfan was killed in the same year, fruit dealers Anas Gul, Ahsan, Fazal Khan and Muhammad Abid were killed while Zahid, Muhammad Waris and Muhammad Ismail were injured when they were targeted on DI Khan-Bannu Road in 2012, and Muhammad Khawar was killed on DI Khan-Multan Road in the same year.

The DPO said DI Khan police have also finalised security arrangements for Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) Islam Zindabad Conference to be held at Haq Nawaz Park today (March 3). Vehicles will be parked at a distance from the place and all those attending the conference will go through thorough security checks.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman and former chief minister of K-P Akram Durrani among other party leaders will address the participants.
