Relatives of those who lost their lives or were injured in a bomb blast in Jamrud, Khyber Agency on December 17 last year, have demanded Governor Shaukatullah Khan to take notice of delays in transferring compensation money to bereaved families.
The demand was made by tribesmen during a protest held on Sher Shah Suri Road on Saturday. Zar Ali Afridi, a representative of the civil society and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President in Jamrud, Abdul Khaliq, led the demonstration.
Holding banners inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands, the protestors voiced their dissatisfaction with the political administration of Khyber Agency and the Fata Secretariat, accusing them of employing delaying tactics over the payment of compensation money.
Talking to reporters, Afridi said Rs0.3 million and Rs0.1 million were announced by former governor Masood Kausar for the families of dead and injured victims, respectively. He said relatives are yet to be compensated despite a lapse of two and a half months.
The blast took place on December 17, 2012, killing 20 people and injuring over 30 others.
