A murder accused was shot dead on Thursday in the Gadai area by two rivals on court premises.
The assailants were arrested and their weapons seized. Gadai police said that Qasim Khosa was being taken to the police station after a court granted judicial remand, when two men shot at him. Khosa was hit in the chest several times.
He was taken to district headquarters hospital. From there, police said, the injured was referred to Nishtar Hospital.
He died on the way. Back at the court, the two assailants were arrested, who the police said, claimed that he had killed a member of their family in 2012.
Police said Khosa was arrested last year on charges of killing a man named Moosa.
The district and sessions judge has ordered the district police officer to investigate how armed men had entered the court premises despite security pickets and walk-through gates.
A complaint in this regard was registered at Civil Lines police station.
Four cops suspended from service over negligence
Four police officials, including an assistant sub inspector, were suspended from their jobs on Thursday after two proclaimed offenders escaped from police custody.
The men had been kept at a lockup in the Jaranwala City police station.
According to the police, two, identified as Javaid Gulzar, a resident of Chak 580-GB, and Javaid Khadim, a resident of Mohallah Anwarabad, were arrested on Wednesday in a raid by the Jaranwala City police.
They were to be taken to the sessions court on Thursday with a request for their physical remand. However, when a police official went to get them from the lockup, they were not there. The policeman said that the men had somehow opened the lock and fled.As the news reached higher authorities, Senior Superintendent of Police (Operation) Sadiq Ali Dogar, Superintendent of Police Nasir Sial, Assistant Superintendent Baqa Muhammad Bugti visited the police station.
They ordered raids for the re-arrest of the fugitives within an hour.
When this did not happed for several hours, SSP Dogar registered a case against four police officials- ASI Sabir, Constable Ghulam Rasool, Muharrar Ashraf and Naib Muharrar Irfan- who were on duty at the time the two men fled.
Later talking to The Express Tribune, SSP Dogar said that delinquency and negligence would not be tolerated. He said police were looking for the men.
