PESHAWAR:

In a bid to demand the regularisation of their services, members of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Ad-hoc Lecturers Association (ALA) staged a protest outside Awami National Party’s provincial office on Tuesday.

The protesters, gathered from different parts of the province, marched from Bacha Khan Markaz to Bacha Khan Chowk. They chanted slogans, asking the provincial government to regularise their services on priority basis.

They held a meeting with Provincial Secretary Information Malik Ghulam Mustafa, who assured them of forwarding their demands to the chief minister.

A total of 267 ad-hoc lecturers including 54 female lecturers have demanded the provincial government to regularise their services.

However, ALA President Qazi Zafar Iqbal said the government seems least interested in resolving the matter. “All it takes to regularise the ad-hoc lecturers is an executive order by the chief minister but the provincial government does not care about our problems,” he said.

Furthermore, he recalled a pledge to regularise the services of ad-hoc lecturers that was made by the former Provincial Senior Minister Bashir Bilour, Provincial Minister for Higher Education Qazi Asad and Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain.

Speaking to reporters, Iqbal said they would continue the protest till their demands are met. The provincial government is paying no heed to our problems beacuse we lack any political support,” he said.

He lamented that despite holding gold medals, some of the lecturers were serving in remote areas and were deprived of their due rights.

“We will continue our protest outside Peshawar Press Club tomorrow and chief minister house, the day after,” he said.
