Lhcba Polls: Asma-backed candidate wins

Abid Saqi, backed by Asma Jahangir, other groups elected as president. Ghulam Sarwar Nahang elected as vice president.

Abid Saqi, from the Asma Jehangir-led Independent Group, was elected president of the Lahore High Court Bar Association for the year 2013-2014, on Saturday.


Saqi was expected to win but independent candidate Shafqat Mehmood Chohan also received a large number of votes to finish as runner-up. The Independent Group has won its third consecutive victory, earlier winning the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Lahore Bar Association polls.

Ghulam Sarwar Nihang was elected vice president and Balighuz Zaman Siddiqui was elected secretary. Usman Sher Gondal received the most votes for the post of finance secretary.

The turn-out at the polls was about 44 per cent as 8,391 of 18,895 eligible lawyers voted.

Shafqat chohan shouldve won..............just to prove to people that you dont have to be affliated with a group to win elections...........hope he tries again next year
