Film maker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy was appointed as South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Goodwill Ambassador for HIV and AIDS for the year 2013 and 2014, by SAARC Selection Committee for the programme, a press release stated.

Her short film on issues of Pakistani women, Saving Face, won international critical acclaim last year and the Oscar and Emmy awards.

She will be working together with other South Asian ambassadors including Shri Ajay Devgan and Runa Laila in India. Together they will work towards creating awareness for HIV AIDS in masses and advocate the issue at regional level.

SAARC chose her for this role as her work exhibits compassion towards humanity through films and she would be able to communicate the goals and values, of SAARC’s programme, to people suffering from HIV and AIDS, effectively.
